Hi, My name is Mrs. Mack and I am the Greenville School Computer Teacher.  This is going to be my 23rd year of teaching elementary students. I love my job!!  This summer I spent most of my time enjoying my own children, who are very busy with their activities.  Logan, my son,  is 17 and driving,  and he is an amazing soccer player. He is a senior in high school and is a Varsity soccer player.  He is looking at colleges and preparing for a great senior year.   Isabelle, my daughter, is 13 and she is a beautiful dancer and an awesome softball player whose team won their championship game this summer!  Mr. Mack and the kids and I vacationed in Nags Head, North Carolina with friends  this summer and had so much fun!!  We also moved into a new house and are finally settled in!  I am looking forward to working with all of my students this year in the computer lab and our NEW STEAM ROOM!!! I am so excited!!! :)

Teaching all of the students in Greenville School allows me to prepare them for all of the STEAM possibilities that they will experience in their classrooms, the Media Center, the ART Room, and here in the computer lab.  Our students are preparing for the future and we are FUTURE READY! Check out our Future Ready video on our Greenville website.  We have iPads in each and every classroom at a 1:2 student ratio. Students will begin to word process,  type, create multi-media presentations and even CODE!  The possibilities are endless and our students will be guided with love every step of the way.  I look forward to an amazing school year!  Contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

Extra Extra, check out this "unplugged" activity this week!   We have all been on our devices ALOT!  Mrs. Mack has always taught us that sometimes we need to do things without a computer or laptop.  That's called "UNPLUGGED"!  So in this activity, you will only need a device to view the instructional video to create something unplugged.

Try this out and if you would like have an adult take a picture and remember to share with Mrs. Mack via her email,  mmack@howell.k12.nj.us .  I will post for others to see on my webpage.
Maybe your picture will make an appearance on our Twitter feed.  Are you following Mrs. Mack on Twitter?   @2mackattack

Okay, so click on this link......

Follow the directions to draw your own laptop.  See how you do and feel free to add any details you wish to make it cute, handsome, funny, silly, smart, lovable, etc.  even add your work from your school computer, like portfolios or typing pal or abcya.com.  I can't wait to see how they come out!  It's like you are helping me to design a "Virtual" computer lab.  We really are engineers!!!!   Use whatever you would like to draw it with:  pencil, markers, crayons, paint and make it colorful.  Make sure you draw on paper, poster board or even a notebook, your choice.   I can't wait to see your creations.

Also, Check out Google this week.  They have a coding activity for you to try! Here is the link.

Have a great week!!! Mrs. Mack misses you all so much!!!  #mackattack:)

Hi boys and girls,
I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend in a safe environment.  I miss seeing all of you very much.  This week I would like you to continue the drawing lesson from last week if you did not get to complete.  Remember to send me an email (mmack@howell.k12.nj.us) with a picture of you and the finished product.  I would love to see how you did.  You can see my picture on my webpage.

Kindergarten:  Let's play a game.  Get to know your keyboard.  Using a computer means that you need to understand all of its' parts.  So try out the website below on a computer or an iPad and click on the keys as they appear in the bubbles underwater.  Repeat over and over until you get really good and you are finding letters and symbols quickly.

Hi guys,
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.  It wasn't as warm as we would have liked, but it was good to be outside and enjoy the family.

Kindergarten, First and Second grade:

Okay, for this week, I have uploaded a story read by Mrs. Mack.

You can click on the video and listen to Mrs. Mack read a story to you and then afterward there is a challenge.

********CHALLENGE********
Objective:  How can I make a robot?
Materials:  Use legos, straws, boxes, beads, blocks, Lincoln logs, recycled materials, or anything that you can think of to create YOUR OWN ROBOT.   (Use your imagination)
It can be as small as you would like or as big as you would like.
Remember to use the ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS BEFORE YOU BEGIN.
ASK:            WHAT AM I BUILDING? (DEFINE THE PROBLEM)
IMAGINE:    GENERATE IDEAS (WHAT MATERIALS CAN I USE TO DESIGN MY ROBOT?)
PLAN:          DRAW A PICTURE OF WHAT YOU WANT YOUR ROBOT TO LOOK LIKE
CREATE:     MAKE YOUR ROBOT
TEST:           HOW DOES IT LOOK?
IMPROVE:   IF YOU NEED TO...
SHARE:      EMAIL IT TO MRS. MACK   :)

*****When done:  Have an adult snap a picture of you and your robot and email it to Mrs. Mack mmack@howell.k12.nj.us
I can't wait to see what you create!

Next week, we will use these robots for the next step in our STEAM project.
(SO KEEP IN A SAFE SPOT).

Enjoy the story and have fun engineering!
Miss you all,  Mrs. Mack

**If you completed the ROBOT project from two weeks ago and you sent Mrs. Mack a picture to her email @mmack@howell.k12.nj.us, this video you just watched will help you to understand the next step of the project.

Remember our Shopkins coding game at school?  Mrs. Mack had a game board and we all had to try and get our game piece to a spot on the board using arrows and directions.  This is called an algorithm in coding.

Your challenge is to make a game board using paper, poster board, legos, blocks, boxes, or even chalk on your sidewalk, (my favorite idea).   Use crayons and any paper you have to make arrows.  Remember arrows can point North, South, East or West.  Use the arrows to get your ROBOT from the START box to another location on the board.  You can have a parent choose the location.  Then write out your algorithm using the arrows.  See how many turns it will take to get you to your location.  I am attaching a video to REMIND you of the game that I am talking about.  This activity will allow you to CODE unplugged, which means without a device.  Yep, no iPad and no computer is needed.  Remember to send me pictures of you completing the mission.   Use the computational thinking video to help you get started.  I hope you have fun and your ROBOTS do too.  Enjoy!  Miss you all! xo Mrs. Mack.

Mrs. Mack would like you to use this week to catch up and send over any emails with pictures for me. Remember to continue to type on Typing Pal second graders and also go to Code.org to continue coding.
First graders, keep up your Kodable work and Kinders, practice navigating.

You are all making me so proud and I have enjoyed the conversations between us.  Stay strong!! We can do this!
Mrs. Mack will be in school on Monday, so if you email me, I may not answer right away.  Have a great week!
Mrs. Mack :)
